morning. >>> and funerals will be held today for five more victims of the newtown school shooting. there was a stirring scene last night. the word hope, spelled out with candles, outside the wake of sandy hook elementary principal dawn hochsprung. and there was this. hundreds of firefighters standing at attention at the funeral of 7-year-old daniel barden, who wanted to be one of them when he grew up. today, vice president joe biden will begin meeting with law enforcement officials to discuss how to prevent another tragedy like newtown. we're going to have more on those talks coming up in just a moment. >>> and new concerns about marijuana and prescription drug use among teens this morning. a new survey finds 23% of high school seniors now admit smoking pot in the last month alone. 7% say they smoke it every day. and 1 in 12 teens now admits to using the stimulant adderall, which treats attention deficit disorder. a significant increase from just three years ago. >>> and finally, a $500 million mystery this morning after a whole lot more than a prayer was left at jerusalem's holiest of s
heart, archbishop, the town of newtown, connecticut. >> until a few months ago, i was the bishop there. and visited newtown many times. the news struck home in a deep and personal way. when you know the community and you know some of the people. i probably confirmed some of the siblings of those children. the pastor there, and the two priests, are my former colleagues. so, you really feel what they're going through. >> i've had a lot of people ask me on twitter, actually, people pointing out in these times, people do tend to turn to god and to faith. and it becomes the bedrock. what are your congregations saying about this? and what are you telling them? >> well, you know, hurt is significant. fear, significant. but to say, hey, god's promises really are like the stars at night. they shine brightest when it's darkest. when you have faith, the person who has the significant why, can bear what comes. >> it takes something like this to get us to pray, to get us to church and talk about him. people are learning more about commandos, killing commandos, than god's commandments. god could tel
school shooting at an elementary school in newtown, two hours to the north and east of new york city. the images you see here, children being from sandy hook elementary school. the district's largest school. one shooter is dead at sandy hook elementary. the school now cleared of shooters. newtown police say there's at least one other person shot. police telling abc news that they're still treating this as an active shooter situation. state emergency management officials confirming that ambulances and other units are en route and staging near the school. again, these are pictures from the park ing lot of the school. police also believe they may have located the suspect's car, again, as we just are getting information here, and again, it's sandy hook elementary school, about 15 miles from danbury, another major city in connecticut. two hours north and east offing new york city. >> obviously, of incredible concern is the extent of the injuries that may have occurred there at sandy hook elementary school. we do know according to the newtown bee on the scene that there was one child carri
elementary school massacre in newtown, connecticut. investigators continue to comb through what's left of this webster home. the scene of an ambush attack set by this man, william spengler, that killed two firefighters and injured two others. overnight, news that a body has been found in the rubble of the spengler home, possibly his sister, cheryl spengler, who neighbors say he had a strained relationship. emotions are high, as fellow firefighters face the grim reality of burying their own. >> intended to burn his neighborhood down and tried to put down as many people as possible before stopping. >> reporter: police say spengler fired from a nearby berm or hill, as if he were a military sniper, using a tree as cover. >> spengler had armed himself heavily and immediately started firing upon first responders. essentially, it was a combat mission. >> reporter: he killed firefighters tomasz kaczowka and lieutenant michael chiapperini. before shooting himself, and at his side, a rambling note. >> i need to see how much of a neighborhood i can burn down. and do what i like best, killing people.
